Review for Hacienda De Los Milagros, Inc., Chino Valley, AZ, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have been an avid and grateful supporter of a number of animal rescue/ welfare organizations for at least the last twenty years, and I am forever grateful for all that these wonderful groups have achieved to help our animal friends. In November, I learned about Hacienda De Los Milagros, an extraordinary sanctuary that operates on a smaller scale than most of the well known groups, but achieves notable accomplishments for abandoned and rescued burros and horses in Arizona. I view those animals as an underserved and possibly even endangered group because rescue organizations which focus on companion animals receive so much more attention and a proportionately larger share of charitable donations. I did some research as I always do before I contribute to a 501 (c) (3) not- for- profit. I have frequently been dismayed over the years when I've discovered that a substantial percentage of every dollar contributed is allocated to cover executive salaries and administrative costs. That is not the case with Hacienda De Los Milagros, where no one receives a salary and all donations go directly to help and care for the animals. I was pleased to learn that this is a legitimate teaching and healing lifetime sanctuary that was first established as a retirement home for horses twenty years ago, and was later expanded to provide refuge for burros from Death Valley beginning in 1995. Executive Director Wynne Zaugg appears to be a person of real integrity and genuine kindness. I was touched to read about his great devotion and compassion towards the animals in his care. I live on the east coast, so I can not personally visit this wonderful ranch, but I will gladly contribute financially and encourage my friends and co-workers to do the same. I feel absolutely certain that our money will be put to very good use and that many wonderful and deserving animals will be given long and peaceful, happy lives as a result.
