Review for Operation Understanding DC, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

OUDC is truly a unique and incredible organization. As a past participant myself, OUDC opened my eyes to another world and opened my heart to new friends. My fellow participants are now my best friends. Furthermore, I have decided to team with a fellow OUDC alum to try and spread the inspiration work of OUDC to our college campus. This is the essence of OUDC: teaching people how to come together, connect and relate on so many levels. OUDC goes beyond merely tolerating individuals to accepting and understanding how people are similar, different and everything in between. OUDC deserves this award because of all the positive reinforcement and love it provides to its graduates, their families and friends and everyone else they touch with their outreach and education programs.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Every aspect of my life. I am a more open-minded, understanding and accepting person since my time in OUDC. It has this effect on all participants.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Help keep the alumni network more involved because it is sad that after one year there are fewer events.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the life-long bonds I formed with everyone involved in the program. By discussing personal issues we all become very close with each other and learn how to connect on a deep level.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Inspiration, knowledgeable and motivational in every sense of the words. They are still a support system I know I can count on and trust.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Really change the world for the better by bringing people together and teaching the world that everyone is unique and has something to share.

Ways to make it better...

It could have been longer. One year is just the start to a lifetime of work that OUDC promotes.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

That they do not necessarily have the funds to take all of the actions they are passionate about pursuing.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every month

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009

Role:  Volunteer & I was a participant in the program during my junior and senior year in high school. I have since stayed in close contact with OUDC to help promote it and support it in any way possible.
