Review for Friends for Youth, Palo Alto, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

My husband and I have been volunteers with Friends for Youth for 4+ years. They are fabulous at connecting at risk kids with appropriate mentors. These relationships give the children the opportunity to experience new and exciting things in their community that they may never had a chance to access. The training FFY provides for their mentors is very good and their screening process extremely thorough. I love this organization!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

our role as mentors.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Do more fundraising. The services are so good and so needed that its a shame not to reach more children.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The staff are fabulous and very committed to the mission and purpose of Friends for Youth. But the time we have spent with our young friend has been full of fun and exciting experiences for all of us. We have learned as much from him as he has from us.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Very professional and very dedicated to their work and the children they work with. They have always been available to answer questions about best ways to be a mentor/friend.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Turn around the lives of thousands of at risk children and reach them at an earlier age when the mentoring/friendship can make the most difference in their lives.

Ways to make it better...

We could have been matched with a child earlier than the 6 months or so it took.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Being able to fill the need because of lack of volunteers and money.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Friends for Youth has been around for 25 years or so, they are obviously changing the lives of children. And they do a huge percentage of their work through volunteers which is incredible!

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
