Review for Blue Ridge Wildlife Center, Boyce, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

As a volunteer wildlife rehabilitator at the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center, I am constantly inspired by Dr. Burwell’s commitment to the all-too-often overlooked animals of the world. Every patient is treated with kindness and compassion – with sights set on its eventual release back to the wild. For those unfortunate patients that are too injured for release, Dr. Burwell eases their suffering with gentle hands. BRWC cares for birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals – at times, even insects! No species is too small or insignificant to warrant care and respect. I can unequivocally say that I am honored to give my time to such an organization. BRWC lives up to its mission statement and more!

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

Move to a new facility - this would enable the organization to continue to grow their patient intake capability. Also, a new building would provide an avenue for more on-site educational opportunities for the public.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

Everytime I volunteer at BRWC, I come home feeling physically exhausted but mentally fulfilled. There is nothing better than to see animals get well and released back to the wild!

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

When I volunteer, I always come home feeling mentally invigorated. I feel as if I have made a difference to at least one animal's life - which makes a huge difference to my life.

Role:  Volunteer & I volunteer weekly and am able to care for all animals (even rabies vectors). I also work with the education raptors. .
