Review for Family Promise of Lorain County Inc, Elyria, OH, USA
I am so proud to be not only a board member of Family Promise of Lorain County but the President. It has been a good experience for me personally since I have gone outside the box to reach out to those I thought I knew but now realize I knew little about. The face of the homeless are changing. We have families who lost their jobs, lost their homes, and have nowhere to go. The faces in our shelter our those of children. The average age of a child in our care in 2010 was just 5 years of age. Currently we have two moms-to-be ready to give birth any day. Although we are not a religious organization, our Interfaith Hospitality Network is one of our programs with over 700 volunteers throughout Lorain County that provide food, shelter, and hospitality. Family Promise also provides intensive case management services which I believe is the key that makes us different. We help our parents with life skills. We help them develop a plan and stick to it, so when they move back into a home they can sustain it. This program helps lift up families that need a helping hand. I'm very proud of our board, our staff, our volunteers, and our guests. Together we are families helping families in need.

Our first guest went to college and is now a nurse. One of our guests has done well for herself and child after getting a job as a driver's education instructor. Most recently a guest moved her family into housing, went back to college to pursue a degree in social work and is our part-time clerk at the Center helping others in need. We have taken in a family of 6 that were living in their van. They are in our care now and will be warm, fed and sleeping in beds.
