As an educator who researches socioeconomic issues related to poor families, I was appalled to receive in the mail a a pair of fleece gloves as incentive to give to the organization and the Americans Helping Americans project. Not only was I upset that the organization spent money on me to inspire me to give, I was incensed that the gloves were made in China. Products made in China are part of the problem as to why so many families are sinking into poverty. They are taking these people's jobs away. We are much better of fighting against businesses that support import of cheap Chinese products at the expense of family wage earning, union -- yes, union because they offer protections of these jobs and page equity and healthcare, sorely needed by families -- jobs in our country.

This was a very poorly designed PR ploy. Why not pay these poor people to make or sew gloves to send to actual donors? What are you thinking?!
