Review for Aim High, San Francisco, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Coming to Aim High in the 6th grade, I was a lackluster student who knew his material but lacked motivation and faith in the educational system. I held a biased notion that school was boring and made my way through school with minimal effort. However, after spending my summer at Aim High, I gave my teachers a chance and realized that learning can be fun. The experience and opportunity to connect with my various Aim High teachers inspired respect for teachers and made me appreciate the work that they put into the class. Even though many of my peers would complain of the teaching style or "fairness" of a teacher during regular school, I learned to look past it and analyze their class for what really mattered: was I learning and is it honestly trying to convey the material. I loved the program so much that I volunteered for it for a summer after I graduated and continue to contribute back to the community that I've grown to love by coming back as a Teacher's Assistant.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

its ability to inspire, motivate, and prepare students for the school year to come.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the opportunity to meet new people and discover ways to work hard and play hard at the same time.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

all helpful and supportive of one another. The campus atmosphere is lighthearted and everyone is dedicated to making the summer successful and fun.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

afford to open more campuses and spread the experience to more students who can really benefit from being in the program.

Ways to make it better...

the program was longer.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About once a year

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009

Role:  Former staff & I was a Teacher's Assistant, teaching 8th grade math the first summer, and 7th grade science this recent summer.
