My Nonprofit Reviews

Review for Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, Tallahassee, FL, USA
My name is Michelle Wilson and I run the Teen Trendsetter Program at West Broward High School. This program is sponsored by volunteer usa and is amazing. My high school students volunteer one hour a week mentoring a 3rd grader at the local elementary school. I see how the older kids start the program to first gain hours, but they realized how much these little kids grow attached to them. They build confidence in themselves and the little 3rd graders vastly improve their reading skills over the 20+ sessions they have. Each week they even get to keep a new book as part of the program, leaving at the end with a new library of books! It's wonderful that Volunteer USA is able to sponsor such a fabulous program all over our state. I hope it continues for a long time! :)

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
how they are concerned with improving reading literacy amongst the early struggling readers. This program builds confidence is both, the mentor and mentee. Their generosity is unmatched with the amount of books they gift to these kids.
