Review for Mission Guatemala Inc, Indianapolis, IN, USA
The experience I had with Mission Guatemala (MG) was amazing. Tom and his crew took great care to ensure we experienced and received from Guatemala as much as and possibly more than we were able to give. I loved the variety in the tasks we were able to complete and I loved how MG takes a special interest in building relationships. It is not "give, give, give" it is more like "give and build for the future". I especially like that MG uses women from the communities where the feeding centers are housed to help make the food, thus making it a learning experience for the whole community and hopefully in the future sustaining so that the full time cook provided by MG can be tasked to assist elsewhere.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Be sure that the message on the web page fully illustrates the donations needed. There are some things that someone donating may feel is of value; however, in reality, it doesn't fit the need of the community. Examples include indicating size ranges for clothing and shoe donations and specific needs for health items for the clinic. Also a brief bit about the culture may help people better decide what to donate.

The experience was awesome. I would not have changed a thing.
Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)
This experience allowed me for the first time to spend a week searching for and doing the Will of God. I was able to focus only on the opportunity to serve. I was able to put politics and personal demands aside and focus on the needs at that particular moment in time. I personally will benefit from this as a healthier perspective to live by as I return from this experience.
How did this volunteer experience make you feel?
I am so happy to have had the opportunity to serve with Mission Guatemala and help the people of the San Andres region. I am invigorated to continue serving and assisting this organization and hope to travel back to do another trip in the future.
