Review for Hugs Project Incorporated, Oklahoma City, OK, USA

Rating: 5 stars

30 years ago, at the beginning of Desert Shield, a lonely Sailor from Lubbock, Tx sat onboard The USS Independence in the middle of the Persian Gulf. He, like many/most of the men serving on that ship, wondered if America would be behind them this time (unlike Vietnam). When he heard an announcement stating that Any Service Member letters were available in the morale office, he headed that way but by the time he got there, all the letters were already gone. 2 weeks later, same result, no more letters. Seems everyone wanted to hear from someone back home. A month later when they called over the 1MC, "Letters have arrived again", he took off running. He flew through the morale office door and since he had been close to the office when they made the announcement, he was the first one there.

He grabbed the letter on the top of the stack before realizing he was the first guy there and he could have any letter he wanted. He says he put that letter back on top and went down the stack until, "It felt right"....we've now been married for 28 years.

Because my little country church supported Ray Stark and other Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines during the first Gulf War, he decided in 2004 that we should support our deployed Troops with letters, care packages and prayers.

We know God directed his hand to my letter that day, knowing we would be doing this project for the last 17 years. We make sure Americans deployed in harm's way can know, without a doubt, that Americans are behind them and appreciate them for the difficult jobs we ask them to do.

If you want to support a charity that is 100% operated without using any donation money to pay salaries...that's The Hugs Project.

If you want to request a care package for someone in harm's way, you can click the "Request a Care Package" button at TheHugsProject.com

We are also now sponsoring young combat Veterans who suffer from brain injury related PTSd. You can learn more in the About Us section of our website. Come join us!!!

30 care packages go out each week. 700 will be mailed at Christmastime. No better more supportive group that meets the need of some of America's finest young (and some not so young) men and women. HUGS LOVES TROOPS AND VETERANS!!!

For the past 5 years, they have been funding effective treatment for Military members with TBI/PTSd. Check out their website at: http://www.thehugsproject.com/hbot-for-tbi-veterans to learn more and you can also supply a name and address of your favorite deployed friend or loved one to receive a care package.

Thanks, HUGS.

Pay some of the staff for their tireless efforts. No one has received a salary in 15 years!!! It's a labor of love and that's GREAT. But, I'm sure they need money to keep doing what they do.

They've been sending care packages for the past 14 years. There's no cost to our military or their families. Now, they are funding effective Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for brain injured troops and veterans. GREAT, unselfish organization!!!!

Love what The Hugs Project does for those who remain in harm's way. Now, they are also working with clinics that treat PTSD and traumatic brain injury with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. Good stuff!!

I first worked with Feed the Children back in the last 80's after my husband was killed in a car accident. Doing volunteer work was how I got out of my depression. They were great then and they are great now. Currently, my husband and I run a non profit in the OKC area and FTC have helped us on numerous occasions. They have donated product to help fill the care packages we sent out to troops in harm's way. I recommend Feed the Children as an organization with a heart for helping others.

I run the national THP organization. I have met the Marine Dad who founded and runs this chapter and he is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! Such dedication and drive. His love of troops shines through. He's a MARINE Dad but they don't just support Marines....they send boxes to all branches of service. One of our mottos is: If they are taking care of us, we're taking care of them!!! Thanks, Garon for your love of country and your hard work to take care of those in harm's way. YOU and your team of volunteers ROCK!!!

The Hugs Project is dedicated to making sure each and every member of our military feels the love and support from back home. If anyone has a loved one serving far from home during the holidays, you can send the address to: TheHugsProject(at)cox.net and they will receive a special care package as a thank you for their service.

I run a troop support group in the OKC area which has been helped by Feed The Children on several occasions. I also worked with Feed The Children as a volunteer many, many years ago. In both cases, my experiences have been nothing short of stellar. Feed The Children is a compassionate, caring organization of loving, dedicated people determined to meet the needs of the community....many communities. They have donated both money and goods to my agency, The Hugs Project, in order that we might help more military personnel both here and aboard. I have nothing but kind words for Feed The Children. We feel very blessed that they are home based in OKC.

I've worked with The Hugs Project for 7 1/2 years as a volunteer. We have no paid staff and our work space is donated. All donated funds go to help our troops.

We send care packages and cooling ties to troops. We love and appreciate all our troops and want them to know America has not forgotten them.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

visits from troops when they come to OKC. They make sure they come by to say "thanks". Sometimes they even work with us to make sure the support continues for those still in harm's way.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

make sure everyone knows how important support is to our troops.
