Review for Camp Quality Michigan, Boyne City, MI, USA
I was asked 8 years ago if I would be on standby as a "Health Officer" for Camp Quality. I knew little of the organization, but was retired and summered in MI. I was disappointed I wasn't needed that year-but have been on staff ever since. I have been rewarded time and again by the courage the kids show in the face of uncertainty, and the compassion of an all volunteer staff. The camp offers respite and support to families of kids with cancer. In many cases, kids who have beaten cancer come back as staff, and share their stories with the kids. A lot of hope, a lot of laughs-a "Quality" adventure.
More Feedback
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
My vacation community! I see many persons coming out to fund raisers and wear my Tshirts proudly. Children come back year after year-where else can they talk with each other about the big "C"?
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Have to be God-work towards a cure-then we would not have a job to do-wouldn't that be wonderful
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Watching kids over the years grow up and beat their disease. Yes, we loose a few each year, but the kids realize through our support, that there is hope, and also that those who go on to be "angels" are never forgotten, and thus live on in our hearts.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Persons from every walk of life who care
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Reach out to even more kids-provide services to even more and also supportive services through the year
Ways to make it better...
Couldn't be better-except if cancer was eliminated altogether
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Funding in the future, and being able to continue with high quality individuals who have the ability to both skilled and discerning
One thing I'd also say is that...
I have developed life long friendships through meeting other persons at camp. It is inspiring to see children fearful of their first experience away from home as a child with cancer, and leave confident, with a resolve to face whatever comes.
How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
About once a year
