Review for MEND - Meet Each Need with Dignity, Pacoima, CA, USA
I've been a volunteer at MEND for more than 10 years. What's great about MEND volunteers is we come from all walks of life. Everyone has a talent that they can contribute to this 40-year old organization that was built by volunteers! If you're looking for volunteer opportunities in the San Fernando Valley, I would call MEND. They can use the help of students, families, retirees and even working professionals who can offer their expertise in graphic design, marketing, fund raising, writing and more. If you have any doubts, I HIGHLY recommend taking a tour of the building to see MEND good work in action.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
attending some of their events where they give back to the children in the community. During their "Head to Toes" day, 2nd-grade kids from the community receive a FREE dental exam, participate in exercise activities and learn about nutrition, and the go home with a new pair of donated shoes, a back pack and school supplies. What a great way to empower these young kids!
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
not change a thing. After 40 years of serving the community using volunteers, MEND is a very well structured organization. In fact, I think the MEND volunteer program should be used as an example for other non-profit organizations.
What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?
Nothing. They are very well organized in coordinating volunteers and using each volunteers expertise.
Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)
Yes. Using my PR skills on a volunteer level has helped me make new contacts in my field as well as the non-profit community in my area.
How did this volunteer experience make you feel?
It always makes me feel great knowing I'm donating my time to a very worthy organization. The best part is I get to see how my work and the money I donate is helping the clients MEND serves.
When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
