In walking among the horses and the nearly 100 burros at Hacienda de los Milagros, my wife Pat and I felt no fear. A calmness came over us not unlike meditation. It was an effortless meditation that opened our hearts to the many hearts of four-legged compassion. The sweetness of it brought tears to our eyes. We were both giving and receiving in the same moments of joy. We were surrounded by empathetic souls who freed us from all judgments and all fears. The quality of acceptance came in every touch, and in eye contacts the gift of understanding was immediately accessible. It was a wonderful experience that all master teachers recommend to us…the end of separation…the ultimate recognition that all life is sacred.

Thank you, dear human and animal friends, for demonstrating the most important lesson of life: we are all family.
