Review for Girls Write Now, Inc., New York, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I was introduced to Girls Write Now this spring. This became a chosen topic for a Making A Difference featured story, on NBC's Nightly News, with Brian Williams. The organzation is one of the best run programmes I have seen, for mentees to learn creative writing. By virtue of it's structure and focus, it creates an environment of caring and willingness to teach and inspire young women. With their positive approach, not only so the women learn, but they gain self confidence. Girls Write Now has a diverse group of mentors, from authors, to screenplay writers and professionals in the writing field. They provide the tools and share the wealth of knowledge for young women to grow and learn in a safe environment. The younger mentees are the next generation and Girls Write Now encourages then to follow their dreams.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I am going to volunteer with the organization in a role yet to be determined. More than likely it will be in the form of writing, either a grant, or donating time to help Girls Write Now.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The warmth and generosity of the mentors. The enthusiasm the mentees have about learning to write creatively. The cohesive management team, with unified goals and mission. The amount of volunteers that are willing to give up their time to help GWN

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

The Director of Girls Write Now. Mentors; Programme Director; Grants and administration staff.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Provide more opportunities with a larger facility; which would in turn, enable them to recruit more mentors and mentees. Expand GWN to other towns; cities in the U.S. Advertise and spread the word.
