My Nonprofit Reviews

Gary Kowalski
Review for Champlain Valley Exposition Inc, Essex Jct, VT, USA
The Champlain Valley Exposition hosts the annual Champlain Valley Fair, which has a sordid history of scheduling rodeos and unsavory circus acts. Details of animal abuse at the Fair can be found at www.expocruelty.com.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
hosting many family oriented events. The Fair includes art shows, home crafts, petting zoos and carnival rides that all ages can enjoy. No one objects to cotton candy or livestock displays.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
heed the advice of the ASPCA, the Humane Society of the United States, and every other reputable animal welfare organization that condemns wild animal acts as inherently cruel and inhumane.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
I've attended the Fair with my children and won ribbons for canned vegetables.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
non-responsive to public comment.
Ways to make it better...
the Fair followed the example of neighboring Burlington, Vermont, which passed a ban on circus acts that include elephants, bears, big cats and non-human primates.
One thing I'd also say is that...
my wife, who is a public defender, says the criminal caseload usually increases when the Fair is in town. The event draws runaways, generates fist fights, and spawns other forms of disorderly conduct.
