Review for Children’s Historical Publishing, tipp city, OH, USA
Having moved back to the Dayton area only five years ago, after having lived other places for the past 30+ years, I was struck by the humble and persistent efforts to reach an underserved population in the midst of such an unrelentingly perilous economic situation. Through it's children's workbook series Home Based Arts not only tries to keep hold of a large at-risk sector of the local community, it offers a novel way of providing a voice and history with which many can then identify and in which all may find a modicum of pride. This sense of 'self', as well as its attendant feeling of accomplishment, is critical for the flourishing of the individual and the success of the community.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
I've seen the happy recognition in the face of other social service workers when these books are mentioned and shared the feeling of joy when a young person was given one of these workbooks and began to devour it like a good meal. One can't really describe the good that comes when a child recognizes a bit of him-/herself in the pages being read...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
If I had the access/ means, I think I would partner this non-profit with a larger and more far-reaching marketing and distributing company for further exposure.
