Assistance League of Kansas City cares for the people in our community. but this organization doesn't just meet the needs of children, families and adults by providing items necessary for everyday life; they do it out of genuine love and concern for people. That love and concern is demonstrated to all who receive their help and it is also given to all who volunteer their time. It is not unusual to hear a nonprofit tell about the good things they do for people in need, but we often fail to tell the story of how our volunteers benefit by interacting one-on-one with a child, a family, and many others. A friend of mine told me about Assistance League when I retired 10 years ago. I am so glad she did. I love what we do and I love the people I've gotten to know. Through the Assistance League we are a part of an organization that truly is making a difference in people's lives. A few months ago a gentlemen handed me a $20 bill after he had paid for his purchases at the ReSALE Shop. When I told him that his wife had already paid for their purchases he said he knew that, but he wanted to give it as a donation. He shared that a couple of years ago his children had received new school clothes because they were going through a tough time. His family was now in a better position and he wanted to pass on that blessing to someone else. Not only was the immediate need met, a need to be a contributing part of the community was carried forward. We make a difference.
