I went to the Beacon House in 2008. It was a very depressing and difficult situation to deal with. Even though I was willing and worked hard I felt as though the members who had been there longer singled me out and would really make things hard on the newer individuals that were there voluntarily. Also most were there through drug court and had a lot to lose if removed from the program those people would make it hard on the ones who were there on their own free will. Overall I was very depressed while at the BH and really could not confide with anybody without total beratement. On more than one occasion my medication was being withheld by the other patients or staff. After a long weekend [Christmas] my meds were withheld and on Sunday night while at a meeting another program person was very derogatory after I received a 90 day chip and I had an emotional meltdown already in a depressive state I seriously was at an end. Subsequently the next day I was removed from the program. It was a very cult like atmosphere that is geared toward the courts approval so they can have a continuous supply of addicts whom are not very motivated to change but very motivated to program and play the game which most are very good at playing since they spent plenty of time in prison. I have been sober two years now thank God and no thanks to beacon house. They have far more dropouts than success story's. The numbers are fudged and the successes are few. Overall I would say this program works if you are afraid to go back to the pen.
