My son Andrew J. Creighton was killed in Afghanistan in July of 2010. The next year was a whirlwind of pain, pride and ceremonies. In May, 2011 the family was invited to the unveiling of the new Special Forces memorial wall in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. It was extremely important to us that we attend. I, my husband, daughter, son (US Army), and both of my grandchildren needed to attend. Our finances are such that we are far from well off. We scraped up the money to go and were informed that we might qualify for reimbursement. I thought the unit would arrange it but when we arrived in North Carolina I was told who to ask for the money. I was prideful and find it difficult to ask for money. It didnt work out for me so well financially. I finally asked the Green Beret Foundation for some help. I was 3 months late in asking and was not sure it could even be done. I spoke with Jen Paquette. As is normal for good hearted people, she was gentle, understanding and honest. She did not tell me that I would receive the help, but comforted me and promised she would try to help. She was professional and returned my correspondance quickly.
The last year has been very difficult. The Green Beret Foundation made things easier for me and I appreciate them very much.
