I had worked with exotic cats for many years, but after retiring I missed them. I went to see several facilities in the area. Then I heard of In-sync Exotics and went for a visit. Eight years later I'm still there. In-Sync was created to rescue abandoned or abused exotic cats or those the owner could no longer care for. In my opinion it is what a sanctuary should be, a true safe haven for an animal to live the rest of its life at peace in a natural setting among huge trees and grass.
The Founder and president, Vicky Keahey, lives on the property and works over 12 hours every day for the cats. There are about 100 volunteers on the roster and Vicky will never ask anyone to do anything she wouldn't do or hasn't done herself. She makes sure each cat gets the healthiest diet possible, a huge habitat that is cleaned daily, swimming pools for the cats that enjoy water, enrichment activities for stimulation and the very best in medical care. She has even taken cats hundreds of miles to a vet specialists when treatment was not available locally. Vicky gives 100% of herself every day.
During the past eight years over 50 animals have been rescued and nine new habitats have been built. All done by the love of volunteers and the kindness of donors.
Five years ago a cat training program was started so medical procedures could be performed without having to use anesthesia. I have had the privilege of training three of our tigers.
As a caretaker and trainer at In-Sync the bond I've made with the cats has truly been a reward far greater than the work I've given.
