Review for The Wild Animal Sanctuary, Keenesburg, CO, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I live in Ohio. I traveled to Denver on Business and headed up to check the sanctuary out on a Sunday in January. That day touched my heart like no other. I was thrilled and broken hearted all at once. Joyous that the animals were safe and furious that they had to be saved in the first place. I came back to Ohio and one morning was reading of a Bolivian Lion rescue and realized this was being championed by the sanctuary that I had just happened upon in Denver. Long Long Story short. I adopted Hercules, a bolivian lion. In July, I was back in Denver for business and naturally wanted to go back to the sanctuary and see the new bolivian lion enclosure (which in January I thought was an extremely large green house!!). My sister from Virginia and I went out on a Friday evening and when I turned my ticket in I was delighted to discover that I was allowed a private visit the the Lion Sanctuary (as an adoptee to a lion). We were escorted over and though the lions had since been freed into their new compounds we were able to go in and tour the facility. Wow - how cool was that. We came back the following morning for the feeding. another memorable and extra cool outing. We stood up on the overlook and watched as Pat and the volunteers rescued an errant pair of sunglasses from a tiger. We saw tigers going bonkers when they spotted Pat - clearly in love with their keeper (further evidenced by the "spraying" of him). I was saddened when I had to leave knowing that it is most likely I won't be back in Denver any time soon but I will be sending my support for the extended walkway to the lions. I most recently received the quarterly magazine with an update on the lions and am thrilled to see Hercules and his pride running free and smiling. I jsut read of the additional 400 acres and am so thrilled for the sanctuary. I must add that all of the voluteers that I encountered as well as newly hired staff = were all so enthusiastic and passionate about these animals. I could go on and on but believe that selection of the Wildlife Sanctuary would be a no brainer as the non-profit best in class!!!
