Review for Performing Animal Welfare Society, Galt, CA, USA
I get the Paws newsletter and watch the videos of some of the new arrivals and see the habitat into which they are welcomed. These large, discarded animals are loved and well cared for and have the freedom to roam and live their lives out in a spacious, open environment, free from fear and abuse.

Review for Tri County Humane Society, Boca Raton, FL, USA
My very favorite experience with the Tri County Humane Society was a few years ago when they rescued 75 dogs from a puppy mill. One of the dogs, Buddy, a male shelty, had spent 7 years there, and arrived at the shelter with both ears completely closed from repeated and numerous infections, an inflamed mouth, and loaded with ticks. After cleaning him up, the vet did surgery to open his ears, gums were treated and he put on much needed weight. However, because of his lack of any kind of socialization or affection, he would just stand there, away from everyone, staring. I fostered him for 8 months, and even though he was around my two male dogs, he never once wagged his tail or played with them. Then one day I visited a Dr.'s office and his nurse had a picture of her two female sheltys on her desk. After inquiring about them, she explained she adopted them after they had been in a puppy mill for 5 years and THEY WERE LOOKING TO ADOPT A 3RD!!! The very next day she came to see Buddy and adopt him. As she was filling out the forms, we heard the jingling of collars and turned to see where the noise was coming from. There was Buddy down in the play position facing the "girls" with his front paws down and his tail up and wagging! That was when the tears started to flow!

The countless rescues the shelter conducts every year, and the many homes found for the senior, handicapped, abused and neglected dogs and cats that come through their door. The Tri County Humane Society is a safe haven for all these animals until a loving home is found.

Have a larger facility to accommodate more animals and offer some product or services to help support the shelter.
