Review for Austin Pets Alive!, Austin, TX, USA
I came from Cincinnati to Austin to attend the 3 day workshop in 2012 that Austin Pets Alive provided to teach how they've managed to save so many animals; turning Austin into a NO KILL community successfully saving more than 90% of all animals coming into the city's open-admission shelter). IT WAS INCREDIBLE! Not only did they share what they've accomplished, but exactly how they've done it - I came home with a huge book full of details and forms that they use. The topics included how they became organized, how they set up a foster network to bottle feed all the under-age kittens that were otherwise being "put down" at the local animal shelter, how they work with the municipal shelter, how they work with the community and the volunteers, what they're doing to deal with treatable issues like ringworm and mange and parvo - without resorting to killing the animals! - - >> I'd highly recommend looking at AUSTIN's track record for anyone wanting to bring the NO KILL concept to their community!!

Review for Purrfect Friends Cat Rescue, Cincinnati, OH, USA
I would highly recommend Purrfect Friends Cat Rescue! It's one of the largest cat rescue organizations in the Cincinnati area, rescuing and adopting out approximately 500 cats & kittens annually. The organization is operated in a very professional manner, solely through volunteers, foster homes and donations. Cats & kittens are accepted on a space available basis; requiring an available foster home and/or cage space at one of the partner pet stores. - - > > I've been a volunteer member with the group for several years; fostering dozens of litters of kittens, participating in weekend adoption events, assisting with interviews & adoptions, etc. What makes the group so professional and successful is the process of medical care for each animal (they're all spay or neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before adoption), the adoption interviews, and immediate follow-up on each adoption. Plus, the group is available for advice and assistance even after the adoption.
