Review for Camp Blessing Texas , Brenham, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

My son has attended Camp Blessing Texas for 2 years now. I am completely amazed by this camp! When you drive up, and your child gets out of the car, God takes over. Your kid feels it, you feel it, and their buddy feels it too! My son has severe CP and is non-verbal. At times, I think he may feel left out because you have to really work to get him involved with a group...but, not at Camp Blessing TX! I can guarantee you he feels a part of everything. Here's how I know: I have to de-camp him when he gets home. :) It takes about 1 week. As soon as he wakes up upon returning home, he is ready to go. After he eats, he looks at me like, "What's next, Mom?" Then he looks at me, "What are we going to do after that?" This goes on for a few days and just makes my heart smile! Thank you Camp Blessing Texas! The Hill Family

Review for Family to Family Network, Houston, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Family to Family has been such a blesing to our family! When we realized the amount of help we would need with our child, it was fortunate I came across this organization. They provide many opportunities for special needs children (rodeo, sports, parties, attending professional games) where they can just be kids, and at the same time, for parents to connect. They also provide assistance with school issues and have a vast amount of experience. I've even received some help/ideas for preparing our wills and getting my son a plan......which is a huge relief!

The best thing about them is that it's not "can/can't," but "how are we going to," which is how I like to approach things, and they are so positive and good listeners.

I first became aware of F2F from my son's OT when he was around 1 year old. At the time, I did not understand how important this organization would become to our family. The first thing we did was sign up for a family friend. Carolyn came out to meet us and was so warm and friendly. She got us the perfect family friend, Ms. Reggie. Oh, how we love her! She was so good with my son, and I loved having her around as a friend too. I got on the email list a few years ago and that's where I learned about so many events going on in Houston for people with disabilities. I found out about the fun day in the fall at Lone Star College, attended a workshop to help my son with fine motor skills, went to an ARD preparation meeting to help with the beginning of school, found out about a sports organization through which I found out about a place where my son could receive therapy (and we both love it!), gave my son his first opportunity to participate in a walk-run to help support f2f, and finally....the Lil' Rustler Rodeo. I cannot even begin to tell you how much that event meant to him. He thought he was king of the show that day. He was so proud to be with all of the other kids, his buddies were fabulous, and he wore his belt buckle given to him for about 2 weeks straight (shorts, jeans, didn't matter). He loved it when people mentioned how big his buckle was and "You are definitely a real cowboy" comments. We are so grateful to Family to Family Network. It's a giant algorithm where one good opportunity leads to another. Sincerely, Tina Hill

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

being prepared for my son's first ARD. I felt like I knew what was going on and wasn't confused by the jargon.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

there is always something to be a part of...for mom/dad, the child, or the whole family.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Incredibly helpful with anything and everything pertaining to my child with a disability.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

build a huge facility with an indoor gigantic park accessible for all, with all sorts of therapists there (air conditioning!), and college kids going into education there to help out with the kids while parents attended meetings.

Ways to make it better...

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

I don't really know, but I'm pretty certain the recession is the biggest challenge.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every month

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009
