Review for Center For Great Apes, Wauchula, FL, USA
This is an exceptionally run sanctuary for apes. It is the only one for Orangutans. The apes have come as former pets, 'actors' and lab animals. They are all treated with love and dignity. They are provided with entertaining enrichment, good food and good medical attention. The site itself is remarkably beautiful; it consists of enclosures in a jungle, far away from the touristy beaches of FL.

Review for Center For Great Apes, Wauchula, FL, USA
This is the only sanctuary in North America that houses Orangutans. The woman who began it and her volunteers are heroes, in my opinion. The animals that find sanctuary here are a mixed group of chimps and orangutans. Many are 'retired' (cast-offs) from the entertainment industry. I believe they require even more TLC; enrichment, etc. than other sanctuaries that house apes, since their former lives were so lively.
I saw the sanctuary for myself during an annual open house held for donors.While I was there, I saw a beautiful facility and apes that seemed to be flourishing in their new homes.
