Review for Ashtabula County Animal Protective League, Ashtabula, OH, USA

Rating: 5 stars

As a new volunteer and someone who adopted a dog from the ACAPL in January, I am continually impressed by the ACAPL. The volunteers who foster dogs all have families, jobs, and lives outside of the ACAPL, yet they always put the animals first. Even if that means getting very few hours of sleep a night. During the adoption process, those involved make sure that the animal is going to a good home and spend time getting to know the adopters, calling their vets, and doing their best to make sure that the animal has found its furever home. In the unfortunate situation that an animal is returned, the volunteers, foster parents, and staff open their arms and hearts and homes to make sure that animal still feels loved and accepted. I've even seen the ACAPL members remember dogs who were adopted years ago and rejoice over the success stories of their adoptions.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing animals find homes through the help of the ACAPL and through finding my own dog there. I've also seen the outpouring of support through their use of social networking, such as Facebook, when they needed funding for emergency vet care for animals or needed more volunteers.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

try to delegate a little more--it seems that a lot of the volunteers become burnt out and frustrated, which I understand is probably because of the shortage of volunteers and the excess of things needing to be done. Maybe working with a college/high school internship program to allow students to get to course credit for doing things such as networking, marketing, fundraising would help relieve a little of the stress the staff and volunteers feel.
