Review for In-Sync Exotics, Inc., Wylie, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The level of care the animals receive here is phenomenal. There have been so many miracles over the years, cats that have been rescued from unthinkable circumstances and are now healthy, happy cats. The staff, volunteers, and everyone there goes above and beyond, day after day, year after year.

I've been a volunteer with In-Sync since October 2010. I can honestly say this is the most rewarding work I've ever done. It is abundantly clear by the chuffs of the cats, their relaxed nature, & their playfulness that they are happy & well cared for by the many dedicated volunteers & staff. I've personally received dozens of compliments on how happy & healthy the cats are, & how clean our facilities are. We put our heart, soul, sweat, blood, & tears into In-Sync each & every day, & it's returned a million times over with each tiger chuff, each purr, every time the cat comes to say hello. Vicky, the owner, is absolutely amazing! She spends time with each of our 61 cats daily, & they all bend over backwards to please her. She is the Big Cat Whisperer!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Give them unlimited funds to build their own on-site state of the art vet clinic to care for the health issues of the cats. Many of our cats are older, & most were not well cared for before coming to live at In-Sync, so maintaining their health is very important. I would also build a bigger commissary to accommodate the needs of food prep for 61 big cats.

I never cease to be amazed by the people & the cats at In-Sync. I have been a volunteer there for a couple of years now, & it just keeps getting better. The cats are amazingly well cared for, & the love we humans give the felines is given back 10 times over. It is so incredibly gratifying to know that at the end of a long hard day of work, I've helped make a difference in these cats' lives. Everyone associated with In-Sync, from Vicky at the top down to the newest volunteer, has a heart of gold & nothing but the cats' absolute best interest in mind in everything they do. And it shows... the tigers come chuff their greetings as you approach their enclosure, the lynx' play & entertain you, & the lions are comfortable enough with you to keep right on relaxing like kings. I simply cannot recommend in-Sync enough!!!

I've been on first the visitor then the volunteer side of things at In Sync since last summer/fall. I absolutely love the people & the cats! Everyone is so incredibly friendly & bends over backwards to make sure that the cats are treated like the royalty they are. As a new volunteer everyone went out of their way to answer my questions & show me the ropes. As a result of the attitude of the staff & volunteers the cats are all very happy, friendly, playful, & love to greet visitors. I can't imagine a better sanctuary.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Watching the cats benefit from all the love & care given by staff & volunteers.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make sure they had all the funding they needed to build additional enclosures & a new commissary, & never have to wonder where the funds to pay vet bills were coming from.

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

Nothing I can think of

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

I learned how to clean enclosures, prep food for almost 60 big cats, read behaviour, etc.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

Like only you can feel after a long exhausting days work that makes you feel you've made a difference.

Role:  Volunteer & I help with food prep, cleaning enclosures, I'm on the Enrichment Team, and a Cat Companion.

I first found out about In-Sync last year when I saw a flyer for their Tiger Trot event. I went out to visit, and was very impressed by how friendly everyone was, both human and feline. The volunteers, though busy cleaning enclosures, moving cats on and off playgrounds, etc, were always very happy to answer any questions I had. After seeing just how well the cats were cared for, how much they were all loved, and hearing stories and seeing before and after photos, I realized I needed to join the volunteer team. I haven't looked back since! It's some of the hardest work you'll ever do, both physically and emotionally (since our cats come to us in such bad shape most times, and having to deal with losing them when they become old or sick), but I wouldn't trade my time at In-Sync for the world! I consider joining the volunteer team the best thing I've done with my life.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I've seen the before pictures, heard the rescue stories of all of these cats. They are heartbreaking. But I've never seen a team work so hard, with so much love and dedication, to turn these cats' world around. It's more than obvious when I see our cats that they know they are now loved, and will never spend another day of their lives getting anything less than the best. I am simply amazed at the miracles I see, over and over again, with each new cat that comes through our gates.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would love to find a foundation, endowment, or grant that could supply In-Sync with the funds needed to build new enclosures for the expanding list of cats, build a new commissary that could better handle the volume of food needed to be prepped daily, and pay for the ongoing cost of vet bills needed to keep these guys healthy.

I have learned so much about the day to day operations of caring for almost 70 big cats. Working at In-Sync has forever changed my life. I've met amazing people with hearts as big as the sky, gotten to interact with incredible cats who have the amazing ability to trust again after all they've been through, and learned so much about myself as well.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

Like I was making a difference in the lives of these cats. At the end of a volunteer day I'm always tired, sweaty, and usually smell of big cat pee, but I feel like I've done a job worth doing that day. I love the people, love the cats, and always feel incredibly grateful for each and every moment I spend out there.
