Review for Society Of The War Of 1812 In State Of California, Ventura, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Couldn't ask for a better organization than this one. Very friendly group of men doing their very best to promote the history of this great nation of ours, as well as encouraging genealogical research. This little known war was actually the war that gave us our real independence, our national anthem, and a northern border that has lasted for over 200 years. Next year 2012 will mark that anniversary. While my own ancestor, I have found five of them, but the one I am talking about served under Gen. Jackson at Horseshoe Bend and then New Orleans helped saved the wounded leg of a young Lt., named Sam Houston, who later became President of the Republic of Texas. While he served his adopted nation, he was from Ireland, his cousin, on the other hand was in charge of burning down the capitol. History sometimes make strange bedfellows. Additional research show a vast majority of the members of the California Society were either directly or indirectly related to each other. As I previously stated you won't find a better organization than the Society of the War of 1812 in the State of California.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing it grow from a mere 11 members when it was chartered by the General Society on the 200 anniversary of the Constitution of the United States March 4, 1989, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Within 20 years after its inception it has a membership well over 100, one of the fastest growing organization in the United States, followed closely by the Texas Society.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Be a wee bit more aggressive in recruiting more gentleman, honest men of high calibre and respectibility in their communities. I would also be actively recruiting younger men instilling in them the heritage left in their charge by the very forefathers who gave the ultramite sacrafice to garantee the freedoms we have and so often take for granted.

Role:  Professional with expertise in this field & I served over 16 years as District Deputy President General for the General Society Pacific District.
