Review for Adam's Camp, Englewood, CO, USA
My son Jimmy is now 25 yrs old. Jimmy has both developmental and physical diabilities. Throughout the years I have looked for resources that were available to help him reach his full potential. There have been many struggles and disappointments throughout these years. Often times we would reach out to various agencies and because Jimmy doesn't quite fit into any category; we were left with many unanswered questions and no help was offered or available. Jimmy has behavorial issues and has limitations. As a result, I was apprehensive about enrolling him in any programs or activities. I found Adams Camp on the internet several years ago. I thought about sending him to camp but always changed my mind. This year I decided to give it a try. I starting filling out the forms and it took me several weeks to complete them. The forms were quite extensive and thorough with lot of questions about how best to work with Jimmy. Adams Camp kept in constant communication with me encouraging me to complete the forms. Jimmy made it to Camp. My husband and I took him to Snow Mtn Village on 06-29-09. There were many families there and a lot of hustle and bustle. But everyone there was very helpful and the registration process went well. Then it was time to go to the cabin where we met Jimmy's counselor and some of his roommates. At this point, I was still not sure if I was doing the right thing leaving him there. I had a lump in my throat and was on the verge of tears. I hugged Jimmy and said good-bye and told him we would pick him up on Saturday. He's answer was "no Mom, I'm staying here. I was tempted to call him everyday but Adams Camp has a website with pictures from camp. The first picture I saw was Jimmy climbing a poll. He was able to go rafting; played minature golf; bingo; 3-legged race and swimming. I did pick Jimmy up on Saturday. The first thing he said was what a great time he had over and over again. He thanked me and said he wants to go back next year. Adams Camp did for Jimmy what no one else was willing to do. They treated him with respect and dignity and as a result Jimmy felt good about himself. The look on his face was something I will never forget. Thanks Adams Camp!!!!
