Review for Adam's Camp, Englewood, CO, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Our 4-year old son, Jake, has Angelman Syndrome and through the many learning sessions that we have attended as parents with a disabled child we heard from many organizations and families about Adam's Camp. We thought we had to wait until Jake was 5 years old to attend an Adam's Camp session, but were thrilled to discover their Early Start Program during Spring Break of 2009. We just made the registration deadline and couldn't be more excited to be a part of this experience. Our high expectations were met and then some!! From the organization of the camp to the staff members, the therapists, the curriculm, the families and the additional meetings held just for parents was unsurpassed. The camp was held at a church for a week with a family orientation the day before camp started. This was a wonderful way to meet staff, view the camp setup, and clock the drive time. Our son benefitted immensely from the therapists approach each day. He would see each therapist for 30 - 45 minutes. They would meet each day to discuss each child and how to incorporate something new from each therapist in all therapy sessions. This provided consistency among all areas of therapy (speech, OT, PT and music) and the results were astounding! Jake loves a challenge and learns quickly, so once he was exposed to this environment he progressed in all areas! We couldn't believe how quickly he picked up on new ideas and accelerated his skill levels during his week at Adam's Camp! On the last day of the camp, there were conferences held for each family, which included all therapists who were involved with the child. They summarized the week verbally and provided us with a wonderful portfolio of Jake's week, tips from each therapist and a mini-evaluation of Jake under each area. This information and nicely organized portfolio was invaluable as we could reference it at home, in school, and with personal therapists to incorporate the lessons learned into Jake's daily routine. We were so thrilled with our experience that we plan to attend Adam's Camp in Spring Break of 2010 and Mountain Therapy in the summers starting 2010. We can't thank the team, staff and foundation of Adam's Camp enough for what they have provided for our family, by giving us the tools to help in aiding our son for success!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

learning how to help my son to become more independent.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Everything! From the parent team meetings, the organization, the therapists, the portfolio summary, etc.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Incredible! They were caring, patient, understanding and compassionate with our family and son. We appreciated the initial meeting held at our home with a staff member who met our son and family in order to place him in an appropriate group at camp.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Do so much for so many!! It could branch out to other states to help families across the country!

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

One time
