My life has been touched by the great work of the Florida Heart Research Institute in two profound ways.

As a former health reporter for 24 years in Florida and now as a professional fundraiser, I have worked with the Florida Heart Research Institute in putting on important events that generate funding for their mission, which involves saving lives by finding new treatments and cures for heart disease, educating people on how to be heart healthy, and providing screenings and clinical trials that both catch problems and offer patients new hope beyond current standard treatments. Having worked with hundreds of organizations, I can tell you Florida Heart Research Institute stands out among the best of the best.

Furthermore, on a personal note, when my mother was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, her physician pulled me aside to tell me it was a deadly diagnosis. Back then, in the early 90’s, people with congestive heart failure had a 100 percent chance of dying within four years. And they faced a slow, debilitating demise. But thanks to the discoveries made by researchers at the Florida Heart Research Institute along with their colleagues, my mother lived a full, quite robust life for another ten years! Yes, the last 6 months were somewhat difficult, but when you are 96, that might be expected! Because of the findings and new treatments brought about through the clinical trials of Florida Heart Research Institute, just when the positive effect of a certain drug or treatment was wearing thin, her doctor was able to offer my mother a new drug that would revive her and give her quality of life for extended periods. I am forever grateful for the innovations the Florida Heart Research Institute has helped to bring about for patients just like my mother. I heartily endorse their foundation and the work they do to save and improve the quality of our lives.
