Review for Sturgis Center For The Arts Inc, Sturgis, SD, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The Sturgis Center for the Arts has been a wonderful place for children of all ages. At anytime during the day, one might see piano lessons, watercolor art lessons, ukelele group sessions, charcoal sketching, pottery, or people gathered around sharing their lives with others. The teachers are caring and considerate of the children and adults that they teach. Tony Hill built a banjo and learned to play so he could teach my son to play. Michelle and Rick encourage good behavior in the children and young adults that like to "hang out" at the Art Center. They allow creative freedoms coupled with thoughtfulness of others. Keep up the great work--Sturgis Center for the Arts. Your work and investment in the lives of the people of our community is priceless. Nancy Vencill

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

that my children enjoy the performing arts as well as creative arts. They are more confident and sure of themselves. The teachers invest in the lives of the children.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

continue using people from the community to invest in the lives of children.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the commitment to opening doors of opportunity to children regardless of their social status or financial status. They want children to be a part of the arts.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

friendly, knowledgeable, and considerate of the developmental levels of children.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

have bought the historic Erskine building, renovated it, leased space to other businesses and community organizations. Otherwise, it could buy the historic bank building they are in, purchased land next door and added more rooms.

Ways to make it better...

there were more rooms for the classes to spread out.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

financial scholarships for students and the cost of rent on Main Street in Sturgis, SD due to the motorcycle rally every August.

One thing I'd also say is that...

our community will never be the same because of the investment of Michelle, Rick, Tony, Roxie, Emily, Jill, Kim, and other wonderful volunteers.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009

Role:  General Member of the Public & I take my children for piano, banjo, harmonica, and art lessons. I will be teaching a photography class later this year.
