Review for San Diego Brain Injury Foundation, San Diego, CA, USA
Brain injury has ben caled teh SIlent Epidemic, and is even moreso these days with military personnel returning with brain injuries that often go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for years. The San Diego Brain INjury Foundation (SDBIF) serves brain injury survivors, their families, and the professional and educational community in San Diego with meetings and a great clearinghouse of information for the newly-diagnosed and the long-term survivors. Unless you have experienced BI firsthand, you have no idea how all-encompassing the cognitive / memory / social / physical problems can be. But SDBIF knows, and helps a tremendous number of people each year.
My husband and I are Speech-Language Pathologists in private practice, although we both have worked in rehab hospitals. We were on the founding Board of Directors of SDBIF back in 1983. So we have a long-standing history of respect and admiration for the work done by this amazing organization. SInce BI survivors often have limited insurance funding and often are bereft of their former employment, financial assistance is critical. Donations to the organization are used thoughtfully to improve the lives of many survivors. There is an annual golf tournament, but the funds it raises can only cover a limited amount of the financial needs of this grassroots organization. For that reason, the help you can provide will help SDBIF to aid additional BI survivors and their families. Many thanks for your consideration.

getting support to families of newly-injured brain injury patients; seen the support survivors have given to each other; worked at the Howard House, long-term residence for severely impaired brain injury survivors.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
increase their funding to allow them to provide scholarships for counseling and therapy.
