I have worked with National Relief Charities for over 10 years as a Program Partner and volunteer. I am a Supervisor with the Rosebud/Treasure WoRC Program on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Lame Deer, MT. The people we work with are living on TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and food stamps. They are far below the poverty level and struggle to meet daily needs and to purchase necessities that most of us take for granted. We have participated in the Healthy Living Program with classes on soft skills, Ethics, Anger Management, Budgeting, etc. We have also utilized the Bulk Distribution and participated in volunteering at the Warehouse in Rapid City. I cannot find the words to express how important NRC has been for our clients. They receive items they are not able to purchase with food stamps (cleaning supplies, blankets, personal hygiene items, baby products, toilet paper, and the list goes on and on). They are expected to work to obtain these items which in turn builds self esteem, Team building skills, and pride in community and their ability to accomplish something worthwhile! I believe this makes NRC a unique charity in that you are not just "given a free hand out", yet the clients they assist receive the help they so desperately need. The staff at NRC.... I cannot say enough about those dedicated, tireless, most awesome people! I have worked hand in hand with them at the Warehouse, they put in long and difficult hours without complaint, they remain always cheerful, and they make a positive difference in the lives of thousands of people every day! In all the years I have worked with them, I never once heard any of them say "that is not my job". They work together as a cohesive team from the warehouse staff to the top of the ladder! I cannot say enough good about this organization! My only wish is that we lived closer so we could take groups to work at the warehouse on a monthly basis! Keep up the good work NRC!! We love you here in Montana!!
