Review for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Heart of Georgia, Inc., Macon, GA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Let me tell you how special and exciting this organization is. I am a first grade teacher. This past year I fell in love with two children who have so much potential but live in very sad foster care situations. I knew if given a mentor to guide them through the journey of wanting to achieve, and seeing the value in a good education, respectful manners, cleanliness, and honor, they would THRIVE. So, my husband and I prayerfully contacted BBBS and asked if we got accepted as Big Brothers and Sisters, could we get these kids signed up and then be matched! It has been unbelievably easy to do, thanks to BBBS. We have enjoyed these kids so much and we hope to be a big part of their life as they continue on with their education. We hope to be able to share in their highs and lows of life. We hope to be with them as they become the amazing and successful adults they deserve to be. Thank you so much BBBS! We appreciate you working with us to make the matches happen. Susie Burns

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing how well they worked with us, my students and the foster parents in a timely manner so we all could be matched and begin our journey together.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Find a way to get EVERY small community involved (like mine) so there are activities for BBBS in the small communities as well as the large.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

They follow through with everything and are very thorough.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

unbelievably kind, respectful, considerate (came to see us at night because we could not do it any other time)and thorough.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Allow the small communities to have promoters and programs - maybe through the churches.

Ways to make it better...

It could be made easier to get in touch with someone quickly.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Reaching out to the small communities. 95% of my school is At Risk and they need mentors who can show them the value in a good education, why they should do their best, and that there is a much BETTER world if they only have the desire for it.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I do not know what is going on in the Big Cities, but here, in Milledgeville, Georgia, we need BBBS mentors. We need to reach these adults who can make a positive difference. This is an amazing organization.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009
