Review for NAMI Seattle, Seattle, WA, USA
When one of our family members first became ill with a mental illness, we had a hard time finding information and assistance - until we found NAMI Greater Seattle. Here we found the help and support we needed. The 12-week, free Family-to-Family educational course was transformational and a lifeline. We learned about the different mental illnesses, treatments, communication skills, empathy and more. Being with people dealing with similar circumstances, helped us to not feel so alone. In times of crisis, NAMI GS helped to connect us to the resources we needed. As my family member became more stable, I regained some of my energy and began to volunteer at NAMI GS. I now serve on their board.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
I knew very little about mental illness before our family was affected. I was shocked by how hard it was to find information, support and to navigate our mental health care system. NAMI Greater Seattle helps those individuals and families affected by mental illness through their excellent educational programs, support groups and advocacy.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
It is estimated that 1 in 4 families is affected by a mental illness. That's a lot of people! And yet, because of stigma and the lack of awareness about mental illness, people are hesitant to ask for help and don't know where to find it. I want to work to improve NAMI Greater Seattle's visibility and expand it's outreach -- so that others may benefit from the invaluable services it offers.
