the french twist
Review for Lazarex Cancer Foundation, Danville, CA, USA
On april 19, 2010 my only biological child five days after his 23rd birthday was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia a rare form, in Reno nevada. Kevin was given a 30 percent chance of survival the Dr. told him this in a Reno hospital.
He asked every one to leave the room except for me we talked, I asked him what he wanted to do? As I knew I needed to act fast to get my son to UCSF. He said he wanted to live. I had him air to UCSF my heart pounded as his adopted father and I drove to san fran.
We were eventually told Kevin would have to go transplant and live in SF for at least 6 months . His father had to stay in Reno due to a blood clot in his leg.
Kevin was more concerned more with me, and how this would affect my life and finances, than his own cancer. I am a hair and skin therapist and I had to shut my doors while being with Kevin. His fathers job position was eliminated with a company that he started.
Kevin was hell bent that he was not going to be a burden to us and bankrupt us.
This worry he had BROKE MY HEART, I told him he could never be a burden that he was my greatest gift.... when his biological father died of brain cancer in 1992, My love for Kevin was my driving force that kept me going. I did remarry in 2001 and Kevin was adopted the next year.
Then the social worker came in she said Kevin you don't have to worry there is a wonderful foundation who will pay for housing while you have to stay in SF after treatment.
Truly that was the first smile Kevin showed in SF I saw a change in him he was now ready to fight the fight, he did not need to worry he had a place to stay.
LAZAREX truly has eased our troubles thats what they do.
I have been a woman of FAITH, FAMILY, AND COMMUNITY, LAZAREX is now apart of my community.
I will do what ever, when ever, I can to encourage people to be apart of supporting LAZAREX. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. I thank Tami for the calm voice at the other end of the phone. I thank all the people to choose to be apart of the lazarex community.
