Little Vet Big World
Review for The Humane Society of the United States, Washington, DC, USA
The HSUS pushes legislation and that is all they do. They are not animal welfare they are animal rights.
I'm a vetrinarian and I worked for local shelters all over and the people who say that local animal shelters only help small animals . I say you are very ignorant. Any call about animal abuse or neglect is taken seriously. I went out on a call once to visit a farm where the lady had one old skinny horse that someone had called about. The horse was just old, no mistreatment but the kicker was.. she lived 1 1/2 out of the city where we were based. So they take each and every call seriously, big animal or not.
I am in the animal welfare business and most of the animal I see are big animals from large farms. The animals are treated well, are healthy, and are generally very well taken care of.
I visit dog breeders as well I have never come across a bad legitimate dog breeder, but I have seen puppy mills. They have no license and do it because they can. Licensed dog breeders take very good care of their dogs, some are even treated as pets.
Not to mention how frantic every animal farmer gets when one of their animals gets sick and they don't know why. Beleive me, They think my visit is worth every penny despite having to pay for my milage and everything.
Off topic now. HSUS lobbys and that si alll they do. They give out measly grants and it makes em sick that they are hailed as heroes for pushing poor legilsation while the local shelters who do all the work are left with nothing. I'm nto saying shut them down, all I'm saying is they should change their name and take out Humane Society to reduce confusion.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
I watch their campains.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Make it so they directly fund the no-kill animal shelters that help BIG and small animals so we can phase out kill shelters once and for all.
