My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for No Drugs America Association Inc, Victorville, CA, USA
When I lost someone I loved to drugs, I realized I had to do something to educate children about the dangers of using drugs. I decided to use my own money to make a Public Service Announcement and after a long search, met Frank Kelly, the founder of No Drugs America who convinced me his nonprofit was one that makes a difference in a child's life. Frank has one goal - to keep kids off drugs and he does it in many ways including, going into school, talking to the children starting in elementary school and having drug free family oriented events! He succeeds because he cares! And the children know he cares! This is a nonprofit that works because it goes "one on one" with kids to keep them on track and lets them know they have worth, they have something to offer, and that they are loved! I was asked to be the celebrity guest at his annual NO DRUGS AMERICA Family Day Event and after attending once, I'm hooked. I've watched it grow into an event where families come together in the park to share an incredibly bonding, positive experience with games, face painting, police, firemen, booths with educational materials, food, fun, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, woodworking projects and amazing raffles! Gift baskets and many BIKES are given away to the children at each event! I donate a bike every year now, and believe their goal is to give 30-50 bikes in the future. I've watched these children return every year. They get up on stage and dance and sing and announce proudly, on the top of their lungs, I NEED NO DRUGS! I watch these children grow! Each year, they return healthy, happy, more confident and drug free! They develop positive self images! I have tears in my eyes at the end of every NO DRUGS AMERICA FAMILY DAY EVENT! Frank Kelly has made me so proud to be a part of such an amazing origanization!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
... the happy, healthy, faces of all of the drug free children that attend Family Day in the park. I watch these children grow into confident, motivated, goal oriented young adults because they know they are loved and that someone cares about them. Every year I ask they if they know why I drive 100 miles to be there! Their answer: BECAUSE YOU LOVE US!!!!!!!! It makes me cry every year.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Help it expand. I believe it is now held in 2 parks each year. I'd like to see more events, more bicycles, and more opportunity to reach more children!
