Review for Cancer Schmancer Foundation, Malibu, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I found Cancer Schmancer on the web this morning, and after reading about it, I want to get involved. I am a woman from Mississippi with a history of cancer in my family. My stepfather was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and was the first of his doctor's patients to go into remission; this being possible, of course, from cancer research. My dad, after only being diagnosed 3 1/2 months earlier, died of lung cancer. He was diagnosed in Stage IV after many doctor visits for "sinus" issues. My 12 year old nephew, Michael Curry, died from Diffuse Pontine Glioma, a childhood cancer with a zero percent cure rate. Remission has not even seen a home in this tyoe of Cancer. When Michael was receiving treatments, however, our family was full of the hope that he would be the one that changed the statistic. Unfortunately for us, that did not happen, as Michael survived only 11 months after diagnosis. His illness was one of many "what ifs" and "did we do enough" questions. Should we have gone with this research or that trial? Was he diagnosed early enough? All of these and thousands more questions run through all of our minds all of the time. Michael would have been entering his senior year of high school this month; instead, Michael's legacy lives through the Michael G. Curry II, Foundation for Cancer Research. Fran is doing everything right to help solve some of the problems as I talked about with Michael's cancer but with the focus on women. If just one woman is saved due to the efforts of Fran and Cancer Schmancer, then all of the efforts are 1000% worth everything. Fran, thank you, once again, for turning a bad situation into a good one. You are special.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the hope that it provides for the future of women and all cancer's future.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

step aside and let Fran run it.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

impossible to answer as I have just found this organization.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

I have not had that opportunity.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

start saving the cancer world.

Ways to make it better...

I had personally experienced any of the events.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

rules of other organizations that have to be worked through to accomplish the task at hand.

One thing I'd also say is that...

this is an amazing progam, and I am so excited about learning more. Come to Mississippi, Fran!!

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009
