Review for WeSPARK Cancer Support Center, Sherman Oaks, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Two years ago I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometrial cancer. It is hard to explain how a diagnosis like that affects you. At the beginning facing surgery, chemo, radiation and being told that there is no sure way to get rid of the very agressive cancer that I have, I was overwhelmed. Then I found WeSpark. The people that I have met including guests, WeSpark facilitators and outside people coming in with different programs have mad my cancer battle SO MUCH EASIER!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have seen the results of this organization in how my life has changed since I began attending programs at WeSpark. I have incorporated tai chi, meditating, creative writing and guided imagery into my daily life because of Wespark.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I am not sure what I would do differently, if anything.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Sometimes it is very difficult to discuss what is going on with my cancer with friends and family. I know that I can always come to WeSpark and talk to people who will listen to what I have to say without trying to fix it.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

The staff and volunteers are extremely caring compassionate people.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

make themselves available to so many more cancer patients. What they do is as important as any medical treatment that a cancer patient can receive. The programs WeSpark offers to anyone who comes in their door are essential for healing and recovery.

Ways to make it better...

If they were able to afford more programs out in the Santa Clarita facility, it would be wonderful for me, because it is difficult to go to the Sherman Oaks office.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Funding. Obviously the more funds they can receive the more impact they can have on this cancer community.

One thing I'd also say is that...

The odds of my beating this cancer are not in my favor; HOWEVER, I plan on being an exception to the rule in this case. It makes me feel safe and secure knowing that I have WeSpark in my corner.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009
