We got our lovely bunny from Red Door. The staff was helpful and knowledgable, and they were great with our scheduling needs. (My daughter fell in love with our bunny, but we couldn't take her home for several weeks.)
They really work to socialize their animals and provide them with toys and adequate space. They also help guide you to animals that fit your needs. They know their animals, so they can let you know if one nips or is has special needs. I raised rabbits as a child, and I've never had less work getting a rabbit used to being touched or moved--they clearly interact with their animals.
My daughter enjoyed the experience of choosing our rabbit so much, we are thinking of volunteering together.
Got a wonderful rabbit here with help and advice from staff that continued throughout my pet's lifetime.
The animals are so well care for and flourishing with the love and attention each pet is given. The staff and volunteers are well educated and very hard working. I'm so grateful for this organization.
This little neighborhood shelter is a pure miracle. In a city of over three million, Red Door is the only shelter that adopts out rabbits. From rescuing rabbits turned into other shelters to organizing rescues of rabbits tossed outside, this place never stops. The cats it serves are well-cared for, happy, and loved, and its network of dog fosters is phenomenal. The fundraisers are beyond brilliant, including spa days with themed glamor shots that are genius. The education and outreach is tremendous, as is their enthusiasm. My rabbits and I say THANK YOU, RED DOOR!!!
My family has adopted 2 rabbits and a dog from Red Door. All of their animals are well cared for and receive all the proper medical attention they require. They are active in the community to save abandoned or lost animals. They are educators to adoptive families and local communities about animal care and responsible pet ownership. They also host great events that the entire family can enjoy while helping Red Door raise funds to care for their animals.
But mostly, they have the best volunteers. They are dedicated and loving and lots of fun to be around. I give to Red Door whenever I can and always recommend them for someone looking to adopt a new pet.
I have adopted three Red Door bunnies and have been amazed by the commitment, caring and love all of the staff members exhibit. The animals receive extraordinary care and the staff go to great lengths to find the perfect home for each critter.
animals adopted from Red Door come pre-trained with all the good habits you want a pet to have, and they even help in bonding your new pet with any you already have. Me and my Lop are grateful that Red Door helped us add a new furry friend to the household.
Red Door Shelter is a wonderful no-kill shelter. When I was ready to adopt a new cat, I knew I wanted to support a grass-roots type organization. The cats are uncaged and I feel like we were able to see their personalities because they weren't just let out when we came to visit. We selected a tabby who is great with our preschooler. Red Door is dedicated to giving their animals a good life while at the shelter. I would definitely adopt from them again.
I discovered Red Door while browsing the web for animal shelters that cared for rabbits, and when I was finally ready to adopt a bunny, my experience with them exceeded every expectation I had. The people who work and volunteer at Red Door are truly passionate about animals—particularly rabbits, which are often under served and misunderstood. As a first time bunny owner, I had a lot of apprehension about having a new pet, but Red Door provided me with so much info and resources that I left the shelter confident that I was able to properly care for my furry companion. They've always been responsive to any questions that have come up about my rabbit, and their dedication to rescuing abandoned rabbits is phenomenal. I adopted a second rabbit 9 months after my first, and once again Red Door provided an amazing, informative experience. Bringing a second rabbit into a home is often fraught with tension, but following Red Door's advice had my bunnies bonded and living peacefully together within ONE WEEK. They are rabbit experts as well as generous people, and I recommend them without hesitation to anyone considering adopting a rabbit.
As a bunny parent of a Red Door alum I am very pleased with the continued service this amazing shelter provides. When we found a stray rabbit that needed vetting and help finding a forever home, Red Door was there. When I needed some contacts for a dog in Ohio in need of emergency re-homing, Red Door was there with contact information. We even purchase our hey for our rabbits from them in bulk. I also feel as an organization they have come up with creative ways to raise funds and awareness for animal, specifically rabbit, well being. Overall I think the staffs detection to animals, their care, and their future is top notch and I have sent many people their way when they have asked about philanthropic opportunities in the area. As a local business owner in the same Chicago neighborhood as them this is something I am fortunate to be able to do often. We love our Red Door rabbit and are so thankful to Red Door for providing such a value to the community.
We loved the support that we got from Red Door when we came to get our bunny. They are very professional and patient as they help you find just the right bunny (or kitty) for your home. They are all very knowledgeable and teach you how to really care for your new pet. I know when we are ready for another bunny we will be back again!!
Red Door's level of commitment to the animals they rescue and care for is unsurpassed. Their primary focus is to ensure the quality of life for the cats, rabbits and occasionally other species that find their way to the Shelter. They are the most wonderful kind of people. Whenever I have a few pennies to spare and share they are the first on my list to receive, as I know the funds are put to use in a meaningful way.
