Mission: OUR MISSION
Project PLASE (People Lacking Ample Shelter and Employment) addresses homelessness in Baltimore by providing temporary housing, permanent housing and supportive services to homeless adults and families. We serve the most vulnerable and underserved, including persons with mental illness, HIV/AIDS, addiction, developmental disabilities, and ex-offenders, etc. We treat, restore and rehabilitate the whole person. We empower each individual to function at the highest level possible.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Our philosophy is to stand with and serve marginalized and underprivileged individuals and families who lack access to resources in the larger community. We help persons in need through advocating for and accessing resources to meet our client's needs.
OUR VISION
To eliminate homelessness.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 1600 individuals, 1300 from the emergency shelter
Geographic areas served: Baltimore City and County
Programs: Project Plase permanent housing apartments and emergency housing - we provide permanent housing and emergency housing in two locations in Baltimore city. At these shelters, we assist the clients to obtain rehabilitation, employment, medical treatment, and other services to overcome the reasons for their homelessness, and to prevent its reoccurrence.
CARE Rapid Rehousing - with government funding, we assist clients to find suitable and safe apartments, removing them from the streets and hotels and into homes of their own.
Outreach services - we provide counseling and other services to many of our clients who reside in permanent housing. Many of these clients have physical, mental, or other disabilities. This counseling helps assure these clients can continue to reside in permanent housing and receive the medical and other care that they need.
My story consists of a complaint with a staff member that has been there for over 30 years or more, her name is Mrs Theresa. She is a caseworker to my nephew, and for some odd reason, my support for my nephew seems to bother her. My nephew suffers from bi polar disorder. Mrs Theresa doing her one on one mtgs with him, she one two occasions have used those meetings to bash my support for him, blood is thicker than water. I realize that she is 80 plus years and possibly might be having senior moments. I just think she should keep her concentration on helping him and stop bashing me. I intend to file a complaint against her because I should not be included in their caseworker meetings.
I needed a hand, not a hand out and that is what Project PLASE offered me. After a really rough year going through my son's illness, job loss, and the loss of my vehicle I really needed some assistance to help me get back on track. The staff was caring, helpful, prayerful, and always accommodating. These people moved with purpose on my behalf and addressed each issue that I had. I was most impressed with the staff because of their ability to be non-judgemental and non condescending in attitude. It appeared as though they were genuinely working from a place of genuine care and support. Just what I needed. I was having a hard time dealing with my situation because this was the first time in my life that I had to ask for help. It still wasn't easy but they made it better. I would highly recommend that anyone needing or interested in assistance to help get back on your feet permanently to go see these people asap.
I have attempted to use the services project place provides. I was referred there by my V.A representative. I strongly advise veterans to seek services regarding homelessness elsewhere.
