I first leaned about FIV Cat Rescue when I was searching online for information about FIV cats. I am a volunteer at a Non Profit shelter in Connecticut and we have recently taken in three FIV cats. I was hoping to find information resources to help us educate potential

I first leaned about FIV Cat Rescue when I was searching online for information about FIV cats. I am a volunteer at a Non Profit shelter in Connecticut and we have recently taken in three FIV cats. I was hoping to find information resources to help us educate potential adopters about FIV. The materials were well done and presented information in a clear, attractive and professional manner. I reached out by email to this organization to ask permission to use their materials. I heard right back from Frankie who was very friendly and encouraging about the adoptability of FIV cats and not only gave our shelter permission to use any materials they have developed but included the PDF versions ready for printing. One of the best resources was an actual “script” for introducing a potential adopter to an FIV cat. What a great resource this organization is to other shelters to who have FIV cats in their population but she is also helping to educate others about FIV and therefore potentially saving these poor cats who might otherwise have no chance at a loving home.
Our no-kill shelter began testing for FeLV and FIV in January. Unfortunately, one of our oldest residents, Mickey, tested positive for FIV. We searched for months to find a rescue or home where he would be an only cat or with other FIV cats. I did my research on FIV, but none of it gave me peace of mind about allowing Mickey to share space with other cats. Then I found FIV Cat Rescue on the internet. As a sort of last ditch effort, I asked for their advice about rehoming him. Frankie Kangas was quick to respond, and sent information on FIV cats that I had not read before. Turns out, if Mickey has been with other cats for 5 years and they have not contracted FIV, it is highly unlikely that they ever will. What a relief! Mickey is so happy to be reunited with his friends. FIV Cat Rescue gave Mickey his life back.
