When the current APA! Executive Director took over this organization, she implemented so many important and beneficial programs to move the "No Kill" initiative forward! My husband and I had been members since the organization's inception. This group continues to provide a unique service to the animal population and the adopters. I am proud to have joined the Cat Behavior team - we follow up when adopters have behavioral issues with cats and kittens. So many clients have been helped, thus keeping adopted pets in their forever homes.

To promote and provide the resources, education, and programs needed to eliminate the killing of companion animals.

Geographic areas served: Austin, Texas, but also do national outreach and education
Programs: APA! pulls dogs and cats from the 24-hour euthanasia list of the municipal animal shelter of Austin, Texas. It sends them into the care of foster volunteers, and adopts them out to permanent homes from the several daily adoption sites it runs. The largest expense of this program is routine medical care (including spay/neuter surgery, microchipping, vaccinations and a veterinarian's exam for every dog or cat) and medical treatment for sick and injured animals.
