I became an OBG supporter from having a wonderful experience adopting one of their rescues. I have always had cocker spaniels since I was a child. I began looking for a companion for my four year old cocker Duchess and since I had rescued Duchess, I wanted another rescue. I went on the web and was route to OBG's web site. As I scrolled the pictures, I spotted Oliver Twist and immediately wanted him! He looked so much like a beloved cocker I had years earlier. I contacted Beth Bauer and she was so helpful and supportive through the whole adoption process. Living so far away from the OBG area, she was extremely helpful in the process. Oliver was in such great shape and healthy from his wonderful foster family. He was very shy but now has adjusted so well. OBG rocks!!!

Duchess, Oliver and Hobo all hit the jackpot with you! We knew we had a special adopter when you didn't blink an eye at driving four hours to meet the little squirt :) So glad you have stayed in touch and supported OBG over the years!

In 2011 my daughter rescued a cocker spaniel from an acquaintance who was going to surrender her to a high kill shelter. She was adorable and since I already had a large breed senior dog, I agreed. Shortly after, I was at my Vet and decided I wanted my cocker girl to have a companion and playmate of about the same age and the Vet suggested I look into OBG. In June of 2012, I adopted my Tea and she has been the joy of my life! Throughout the application and adoption process, it became very clear to me that these people and this organization have a level of caring and compassion for their charges (the dogs) that is rare in today's world. They truely strive to make sure that each dog is placed in the right home for them and that the new pet parent has the support they need to make the transition smooth and above all successful! I had such a positive experience that in Oct 2012, I added to our little family by adopting a little boy, who I have named Dasher. I can't tell you how much joy they all add to my life and how greatful I am to OBG's Volunteers for their dedication and support. I would recommend this group to anyone looking for a canine addition to their family!

Thank you for your note and for being a wonderful mom to OBG alumni Tea and Dasher! Glad to have yet another adopter who is hooked on cockers and espousing the virtues of rescue!

I volunteer with OBG and am amazed at the volunteers who go above and beyond to ensure the dogs are rescued and are properly cared for (often at great costs) until such time as they are adopted. OBG spends considerable funds to ensure all dogs are heathy or, in some cases, cared for and comfortable while in fospice care. No dog is denied a heathy and comfortable existence. Supporters are amazing in their willingness to fund this organization which says a lot about the quality of the rganization overall. If you are looking for a dog, or a way to help the many rescued dogs, look to OBG!

I purchased a puppy from a petstore and quickly fell in love with him, but due to his aggressive behavior toward both us and our other dogs, I was put in a horrible predicament - having to get rid of him. I cared for this dog and the thought of having to find a new home for him broke my heart. I didn't want to give him to a shelter, as I feared they would have him put down. Fortunately a trainer that I knew told me about OBG and I reached out to them. I explained the situation and they agreed that the puppy needed to live in a one dog home with a family that could put in the time necessary. Staff from OBG came to my home, responded to emails and calls promptly, and were nothing short of angels during this horrible time. I cried when I gave the dog to OBG but the staff hugged me, knowing how tough the process was. The folks genuinely care not just for dogs, but their owners, and I cannot thank them enough. Thank you OBG!!

Hi Marcus, it means a lot to us that you would take the time to write us this note. I can only imagine how difficult it was to surrender your dog and I am glad our volunteers were part of making it a little bit easier.

OBG is the best! I adopted in October 2011 and have been serving as a volunteer ever since, helping with adoption shows, temporary fostering, adoption applications, and events. I even knitted hats for OBG to auction off this winter to raise funds for the pups. Everyone I've worked with at OBG has been in it for the dogs. Everyone cares so much about making sure each dog gets the medical attention and love it needs and then finding the perfect forever home. While we do adopt out about 300 dogs a year, the focus is never on the numbers: it's always on the individual dogs and getting them into the best homes possible.

E, thank you for your review and, actually, for making OBG aware of the Great Nonprofits site. Most importantly, thank you for all you do for the dogs as a volunteer. The knit hats are incredibly special and something we won't soon forget!
