Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Frankie and Andy’s Place is a unique combination of senior dog shelter and emotional healing center for troubled humans. A beautiful log cabin, nestled in a picturesque Barrow County woodland setting, Frankie and Andy’s Place is home to a small number of gentle, loving senior dogs who have been cast aside by their humans and yet who still have many valuable gifts to share ..... These gifts of sympathy, time, reassurance and unconditional love are then shared with troubled humans in an atmosphere of calm and acceptance to help them mend. Frankie and Andy’s Place ....... a healing collaboration between man and his best friend.

Results: Long before the cabin had even been delivered, Connie Woofford contacted me to ask about our plans for Frankie and Andys Place as she had read about it on our Facebook page. She wanted to know if we would be interested in taking senior dogs to the Adult Day center in Winder, where adults of all ages but requiring supervision, could go to give their carers a respite for the day. I told her then that we would need to wait until we were up and running to check this out; last Thursday, due to her dogged persistence, she and I went to meet the folks there and introduce them to our mission and the tour de force that is...ERROL FLYNN! When we got there, it was after lunch, and we toured the facility, met the staff, and were able to meet some of the visitors. One older gentleman, who introduced himself as Chuck Norris, ( you can only imagine how long he and I traded pretend ninja kicks....it was too much fun, honestly) wanted to hold Errol Flynn because he reminded him of his childhood dog, Trixie. Of course, we heard him say this a few times, but both Connie and I were struck by the emotion it evoked in him....how simply touching this four pound ball of love seemed to happily transport him back to halcyon days. Another fan of Errol was a sweet lady who isn't allowed to have dogs at her care facility, but missed having the touch and love of one in her life. But for both Connie and I, the most unbelievable moment came when a young lady, who was quadriplegic and sitting in a wheel chair with her head tilted back, unable to speak or move her hands, was asked if she would like to meet Errol. She looked at him, their eyes met, we lifted her hand to gently stroke Errol, and her face lit up like a Christmas tree. She started to laugh with such genuine glee, her whole face shone like a golden light, her mouth was so far open in a smile, the carers were floored! You see, she had not been feeling well when she arrived that day, and they had been concerned for her. We lifted Errol to her neck and allowed him to nuzzle her gently, and she purred with delight. She cannot make a coherent sound, but she laughed! She truly laughed! Folks, if these dogs do nothing useful ever again, what we saw on that day, with that young lady, made every single thing worth it. Errol Flynn, this little four pound dynamo, walked into a room, owned it and made everyone feel better. He spread the love like Gandhi, touching hearts everywhere he went, allowing himself to be passed from one person to the next, hugging and snuggling his way into their hearts. 15 people became balls of mush at his very presence. Because of confidentiality guidelines, we are not allowed to post pictures yet, or give names; we are hoping that will come soon. We will be visiting, at this our second adult day center location, there every week starting on Monday, and I cannot even begin to thank Connie for the work that she has done to get this going. (November 19 2016)

Target demographics: Rescue senior dogs

Geographic areas served: Winder GA and surrounding environs

Programs: We have long believed that dogs come into our lives, not just to provide friendship and comfort, but to teach us, to open our eyes to what is really important in life, and to help us cope with the stresses of everyday living. The beauty and serenity of this environment combined with the wisdom and empathy of some of our working dogs has brought comfort and relief to a number of humans dealing with anxiety, fear, self-harming issues and bipolar disorders. All under the watchful eye and guidance of an experienced mental health professional. This shelter provides a home like environment, furnished comfortably, with sleeping quarters for the dogs, but also a main living area where they can come together and mingle with their carers and work with whoever needs them.

I, originally, came to meet Penny and Peter Miller for help with my reactive senior dog. It was another attempt, having had several prior to it, to help my boy be a happy confident dog, again. Within about 30 minutes, the magic of Penny Miller was very evident! From that moment on, I knew that I needed to be part of her's and Pete's world and their dream for a special place to provide senior dogs, who have been thrown away by their humans for any number of reasons, a safe and loving environment for the time they might have left. This is not just a cabin in the woods, though. If there was ever a magical place that could fill your heart and soul so completely with love, laughter and pure joy, it would certainly be a cabin in the woods called Frankie And Andy's Place (FAAP)!! We have always heard that "it is better to give than to receive". In this magical place, you open your heart just a crack and the love of these senior pups rushes in. You receive so much more from them than you could ever give to them in return!

This dream of the Millers is not achieved, yet, though because there continues to be too many senior dogs in need. The dream is for more space for more dogs. It's not an attitude of if it can be done, but when it can be done!! The cabin is totally staffed by dedicated volunteers who love these seniors as much as their own pups.

The real magic, though, is what the senior dogs bestow on anyone that walks through the door. You are met by these grayed out sometimes toothless faces, bulging tumors, odd gaits due to injuries or medical issues and always happy wagging tails. It's a healing place, not only for trauma these dogs have experienced, but for human trauma, as well. These dogs visit human seniors and bring big smiles and joy to their days. Troubled teens visit the cabin and these pups give them some hope, again, making their hearts open to someone and feel safe, special and needed. It's, indeed, magic for all involved!!

None of this would ever have been possible without the immense heart, selflessness, fortitude and total dedication of Penny, Pete and the very supportive board of directors of FAAP! The inspirational leadership that Penny and Pete provide is the driving force in this magic, though! Their hearts are huge, their drive and enthusiasm is unstoppable and their love and true understanding of these four legged creatures is endless! I feel truly blessed to be able to volunteer at Frankie And Andy's Place!

Frankie and Andys Place is a safe haven for our senior dogs that have been abandoned by their owners for various reasons. I volunteer when I can to give love to these amazing seniors. They deserve happiness during their later years. I love giving them walks in the woods, and cuddles on the sofa. They are an amazing pack, and get love every minute of the day. The kindness, care and dedication that is given to them by Penny and Pete is nothing but phenomenal; its a 24/7 job. These dogs enjoy life to their fullest. I cannot express how we need more places like this. No Senior, dog or human should be alone during their final years. Praise to all that volunteer and give to such a great organization...

As a frequent donor and occasional volunteer, I can't speak highly enough of the Millers, the board, and the amazing volunteers that provide so much love and care to these seniors. All the seniors chosen to live here are renewed, and given the love many lacked. Their health is monitored by top notch doctors and veterinary staff that are also so giving of their time to these senior cuddle bugs. The welfare of these seniors is at the heart of everything this organization does. The joy they bring to senior adults in the community, troubled youth and to all the volunteers who get to spend time loving on them is priceless. I am blessed to have a small part in this group and will continue to give my time and financial backing to this fantastic organization. Love love love Frankie and Andy's place!!

If you have ever heard the expression "a little slice of heaven" and thought does that really exist? Well it does at Frankie and Andy's Place. It is truly an unbelievable place. They take dogs that others have given up on for one reason or another and give them that second chance that they truly deserve. Each dog that is there has a story of where they have come from. Some are incredibly heartbreaking some just make you shake your head. But one thing is obvious these dogs have come from broken hearts and entered Frankie and Andy's place and been wrapped in love and are now thriving. They all truly have glows about them and a bounce in their step. The dogs there are truly angels in fur. They all have such huge hearts and such a healing power about them. It's amazing to look at those dogs and know the heartbreak they have gone through and to see what they are now.

I could rave about how amazing and healing the dogs are but the staff and volunteers there as well are incredible. It is obvious that their hearts are truly in this mission and that is all about the dogs. They give so much of themselves to make this incredible endeavor thrive.

I could not think of a better place to donate time or money too. This organization truly shows that old dogs have worth and value and they focus on spreading that love those dogs have to give to make this world a better place. Thank you Frankie and Andy's place for what you do and thank you for giving these oldies the 2nd chance they deserve!

This is by far my favorite non-profit! I love they make a difference each day and my all donation goes to saving dogs and making sure they have a wonderful existence. Penny and Pete are the most passionate defenders of dogs and I only wish I had more funds to support.

I was there the day this cabin was delivered. I never knew it would change my life. Animals have always been a passion. But this place is the movie Cocoon for animals. Where can you take an old guy with bad skin , wobbly legs, and lumps that isn't expected to live 2 months? And 8 months later he is soft and running to you with dirt face kisses ! Or a 16 yr old Doxi with heart condition, rotten teeth and a large tumor hanging of his chest. You get his teeth cleaned the tumor removed. He goes to the Senior Center and spreads love and joy for 4 months. He knew joy till his time here was done. They have purpose they didn't know they had. Some go to visit the Senior Centers. That's is their job to share their stories that we all have purpose regardless of our abilities. Some stay at the cabin and have other jobs by bringing joy to volunteers. Or just an hug and kiss when you need to recharge yourself from life. But they have brought me an amazing extended family . I am truly blessed to be part of something so magical .

Pete and Penny started Frankie and Andy's Place with a dream of helping senior dogs live out their lives in comfort and love. They and their volunteers provide a much needed service for these precious dogs.
Some of the canine residents make a trip to the Senior assisted living and nursing homes weekly. Thus, spreading love and good cheer to the human population as well.
Thanks to Penny and Pete for providing this sanctuary for senior dogs of all breeds.

A healing place. A loving place. A warm home in North Georgia for old dogs that would have died otherwise. As a volunteer I am the one blessed by these senior dogs every week as they come running, hobbling or limping to greet me with tails wagging. They don't know it when they first arrive, but they figure it out quickly that they matter and are safe, respected, needed and mostly loved! Rescuing senior dogs and "hospice" cases means some won't be with us long, but for those sugar snouts when it's time for their walk over the Rainbow Bridge when they're at Frankie and Andy's Place they are loved across with all the dignity and gentleness that we can. In loving memory of Cody and Donald.

When a senior dog gets abandoned in a shelter he has very little chance of getting adopted. Until, that is, until Frankie and Andy's Place was established! I've seen dogs come in looking like they've given up and after a few days of love and healthy diet they come alive!! Physically, spirItaly and emotionally! What a blessing!

Frankie and Andy's Place can hardly be described without a big smile on my face and tear in my eye. These old senior dogs have grabbed my heart and I guarantee all the volunteers feel this when they visit. These old dogs show us how to live life with happiness. They hobble around the yard, some blind, some with cancer and some just frail and arthritic, but not a word of complaint. These dogs would have been euthanized at shelters, had not Penny and others rallied to save them and bring them to the old dogs home to live in comfort and peace. This is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Hard to see them go over the rainbow bridge, when one dies, but we find comfort knowing their last days were happy and adored. Come see this place, when in Winder, Ga. Marilyn Ranck

This is one of the most unique and worthy rescues. All the volunteers love these seniors and all of us learn from them. They ask for nothing. Some are blind, arthritic or have cancerous tumors. They never complain. Please consider volunteering and/or donating to help keep this much needed rescue continue to save a senior dog.

This is a little slice of heaven. Senior dogs rock. Once you hear their stories and are able to spend time with them, your aches, pains or problems seem to go away. They love a lap to snuggle on or just being near you!

I volunteered for the first time Frankie and Andy's Place a week ago. What a wonderful place for the rescued seniors to live out the remainder of their years. It's a warming and loving environment. The cabin is so cozy and you can tell the dogs love it there. I volunteered to spend time and love on these seniors and I left with so much more. They stole my heart. Frankie and Andy's is a loving, caring place and the owners Penny and Pete have done a fantastic job.

Wow! Today was my first official day as a volunteer at Frankie and Andy's. From the moment I got to the cabin door, i was greeted by several senior dogs just waiting to be loved on. Their cabin is awesome, set up with comfy sofas and doggie beds for them to lounge in comfort. Just out the door is a beautiful fenced in yard just for the furkids to roam and relax. It truly made my heart happy to be part of Frankie and Andys. I met two other wonderful volunteers while there. It's such a "homey" feel. I signed up for a 2 hour slot but before I knew it, i had been there 3 hours. I only wish more rescues could be like Frankie and Andy's. I am looking forward to my next day spending with all the special senior fur kids. What an awesome place.

I have spent a little time and seen what they have done with our donations. What a wonderful mission to provide elderly abandoned dogs a place to live out their lives with not just dignity, but with joy. I would love to go there when I am too old to care for myself, but it is just for dogs.

Frankie and Andy's Place is a wonderful senior shelter ! All the seniors that are at FAAP were given a second chance at life . Most of them would not have made it out of the shelters . The volunteers give so much love and care to the seniors , but get more back in return . This place is amazing

Frankie and Andy's Place is heaven on earth for senior dogs that have been abandoned by their owners and wound up in county shelters. These loving souls are pulled from the shelters and immediately taken for vet checks and receive any medical help they need. Next stop is Frankie and Andy's place to meet their new friends both four and two legged and to see where they will be living out their days. Inside the cabin they have comfy couches, dog beds, blankets and they get the best food and supplements to keep them as strong and healthy as they can be. Many wonderful volunteers come to spend time loving on these sweet souls, taking them for walks on the beautiful property or just spending time outdoors with them in their own beautiful fenced acreage. Don't forget rides to the local senior home to spend time with some wonderful older folks, or just a nice ride to get a treat or enjoy some scenery while letting the wind blow their ears! I hope when I become a senior, there will be a place like Frankie and Andy's place for me!

Just before entering heaven is the Rainbow Bridge and just before crossing the bridge is Frankie & Andy's Place...a sanctuary where lost and forgotten canine souls enjoy loving care from dedicated volunteers, healthy and delicious meals, clean comfy beds to snuggle in...all in a beautiful cabin in the woods begging to be explored. This is an extrordinary home for end of life senior canines, who, in turn, bring companionship and joy to lonely and troubled folks in the community. How perfect!

Frankie and Andy's Place is one of a kind. This place truly is a haven for the senior dogs and people alike. These dogs are given the chance to live out their lives in a peaceful, serene environment surrounded by loving volunteers who are devoted to their care and quality of life. Not only do the dogs benefit from Frankie and Andy's Place, but the humans as well. These dogs offer support, emotional healing, acceptance and a sense of belonging to a "group" or "family". This organization is hands down the best out there!

This is a unique place where discarded senior dogs are given love, safety and shelter for their remaining time on earth. Frankie and Andy's Place is run by very caring and competent volunteers. By allowing professionally led groups to meet there is a perfect way for humans to have the opportunity to receive from as well as give love to the sweet elderly residents. As a professional who has used my dog in therapy, I know first hand the power of healing with canines. I will continue to support this organization and hope to be a volunteer in the future.
