Mission: Youth Self Development''s Mission is to enable Paterson young men and women to prepare themselves to pursue a college or technical school education and to inspire them to work toward revitalizing Paterson politically, educationally and economically.
Programs: The Youth Self Development,Inc. (YSD) provides SAT preparation mentoring and career guidance services to qualified high school students in Paterson, New Jersey. We also provide financial aid of $1,000.00 a year once they enroll in college or technical school and keep satisfactory grades.
One day each week YSD provides tutors for Math and English at each of the two high schools after regular classes to help students prepare for state proficiency tests, Scholastic Achievement Tests (SAT’s) and college level studies. The tutors are all volunteers who have appropriate experience and education. Up to $1000 per year in scholarship funds are given to each student who completes the YSD program and is enrolled full time in college or technical school. The money is for textbooks, school supplies and incidentals, a type of aid not typically available. A pro-rated payment is made for students attending only part-time. The annual stipends are set and approved each year by the Board of Trustees and depends of course on income. Satisfactory grades of 'C' or better must be maintained for aid to continue.
