I served as an AmeriCorps member for 2 years, and I really got a lot out of it. I was able to experience different cultures and lifestyles than the one I grew up with. I met a lot of interesting individuals and I feel that I made difference in at least one person life through my volunteer work. Youth Advocates is a very unique place with many unique people such breakdancers (which I had never been exposed to before this), poets, grafitti artists, etc. I like how these kids, who might get judged by their communities, have a place to come and hang out that's positive instead being found causing trouble in the streets. Youth Advocates does good work and is willing to help an individual in any way they can.

Mission: YA is a non-profit organization creating a youth-centered community built on love and acceptance that allows for intervention, guidance, self-expression, and alternative activities.
Results: Since 1989 over 13,000 youth have been involved in Youth Advocates; vibrant youth community; over 75% have avoided involvement in illegal activities; over 85% have not offended or re-offended; over 70% have reduced or ended their involvement in gangs; Furthermore over 85% successfully completed high school or their GED and most went on to go to college.
