YoungLives Pittsburgh

This is a wonderful ministry to teenage moms. They are able to spend time with other teen moms, work with mentors, and learn about the love of Jesus. The support they receive through this ministry gives their babies a head start as they grow in the world. I volunteer holding babies during club time, where the girls meet together to learn and do projects. They also have meal time together. This ministry reaches girls who might otherwise struggle to raise their babies alone, without support.

I love it I still am friend all of the girls that use to go to the young lives I miss it so much because it helped me to become a better mother and it's very helpful with every day life I just love it I wish that I could still go to all the even that they have I just miss it so much

I learned of this ministry while reading the newspaper in 2008. As a teen mother myself, I always knew I wanted to give back one day. I began volunteering as a committee member in 2009 and it was the most fulfilling ministry ever. The impact the mentors and director made in the lives of the girls was life changing. The ministry is small but mighty. It's mighty because it's Christ Centered.

YoungLives is unique and vital. If you speak with one hundred churches you will find next to none that have a ministry that reaches out to teenage moms specifically. There is a great sense of being alone that comes with being a young mother. Very often teenage moms do not have an objective third party adult without the authority to punish in their lives. YoungLives provides that and much more. We are very often most impacted by God in the most trying of times in our life. Once again, Younglives provides that with the very love of the God that created them. I can not recommend an organization more highly than YoungLives.

Younglives Pittsburgh is such a great organization for teen moms to come hangout and have fun while learning about Jesus! It's amazing to see the way God works within the leaders and the girls here; they are sent to camp and it's the best week of their lives! Tons of fun, lots of chaos, wouldn't have it any other way!!

Young Lives has been a great way for teen moms in Pittsburgh to connect and build a network of support and love. Young Lives plans activities that are fun for the girls and their babies, with supportive leaders there to help care for the babies and relieve some stress from the moms' lives. Young Lives events provide a break from the chaos of being a teen mom, and also encourage the girls to gain strength from God, knowing that they are loved and can thrive in their circumstances because of His plan for their lives.

I support YoungLives with my finances and time because I see it meeting a deep need in the broken lives of local teen moms, offering these girls friendship, help, and true hope. Mentors and other volunteers give the girls personal one-on-one time, sharing the joys and struggles of the girls' lives. Through these relationships, teen moms begin to learn just how much God loves them: they hear about the hope of the Gospel, and they see it lived out in very concrete actions of love and sacrifice. Many teen moms respond by giving their lives to Christ, starting a new direction of health and hope in their lives. I've gotten to know several of the girls personally, and I've seen the changes God has made in them!

YoungLives has been an amazing ministry to share the gospel with teen moms. YoungLives has taught me how to love like Jesus. As a mentor we go where teen moms are. We go to their work or school. We build friendships with these girls and their babies. We love because Jesus loved us despite our mistakes.

As a person who helps out with grant writing, I have the wonderful opportunity to work with dedicated staff who have made it their lives to break the cycle of teen pregnancy and its associated problems. This is one of the best experiences I have ever had as a volunteer with a nonprofit organization. I also have had the great pleasure of getting to know some of the some young women who are recipients of the mentoring services of the organization. I have seen: Marriages have been restored, family relationships rekindled, personal goals pursued with fervor, etc. The bulk of this work is accomplished through the efforts of a network of volunteers. This experience for me has been a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. With unconditional love and unwavering support, most problems faced by youth today can be solved. A commitment of as little as 1-2 hours per week that make a difference in a teengers life.

YoungLives Pittsburgh provides an opportunity for teen mothers to get together for fun, food and fellowship while adult volunteers watch their precious babies. This experience for me has been truly wonderful as one of the baby sitters. The hard working staff deserves recognition and praise for long hours spent making life a little easier and more fun for these teen moms. Through YoungLives teen moms get to be teenagers once a month! Millie

I have seen girls' lives turned completely around. Young moms in abusive relationships, without basic parenting skills, and lacking any sense of direction to their lives, have become self-directed, confident, and educated, and are pursuing healthy goals and relationships.

The best thing about this program is the commitment of the individual mentors to the young teenage mothers and their concern for them. Showing that they care and being there through thick and thin means so much.
